What Matters

How does Commonwealth add value beyond a typical brokerage relationship?

We believe in building strong, lasting relationships with our clients—not just for a single deal, but for the long run. We’re here to support you through every stage of ownership and investment. With multiple lines of business working together, we aim to be a seamless, go-to resource you can rely on whenever you need us.

What does being a true partner to your clients mean to you?

Being a true partner means being dependable, giving honest and fair advice, and supporting our clients for the long run.

What’s something about this market that only a local expert would know?

As a  (transplanted!) local, I've learned how neighborhood-driven the Richmond retail market is. It’s not just about traffic counts or rooftops - each submarket has its own personality. What works in Short Pump may not work in Carytown or Scott’s Addition, and understanding those dynamics can make a good deal a great one.

What do you enjoy most about working at Commonwealth?

Working with our Retail Team! We’re constantly pushing each other to be better, and there’s a real energy behind everything we do. Jim McVey leads a scrappy, competitive group that’s focused not just on individual wins, but on building a strong, supportive team. We work hard, have a lot of fun doing it, and aren’t afraid to take chances.

If you weren’t in commercial real estate, what would you be doing?

I’d be a cashier at Cahoon’s Market in Nags Head, NC. If they don’t have it, you don’t need it!
